BOTOX®, also known as botulinum toxin type A is a FDA approved purified protein toxin produced by clostridium bacteria. Because it is used in extremely small amounts in specific areas , there are no side effects. Today Botox is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in North America.
The effects of BOTOX® are confined to the injected area and do not travel throughout the body. These injections are used for treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. It is also used to eliminate worry and frown lines, crow ' s feet laugh lines and other wrinkles.
The procedure works by weakening the facial muscles beneath the skin that are responsible for these wrinkles. BOTOX® is injected by extremely small needles and the pain associated with these injections is minimal.
It is recommended that you avoid alcoholic beverages, aspirin and
vitamin E one week before and after the injections. Some people may
experience a minor headache following the procedure and acetaminophen
(Tylenol) may be used should this happen.

How is the procedure performed?
BOTOX® is a simple, non-surgical procedure that involves the injection of a protein via a tiny micro-needle into specific areas in order to relax the expression muscles. When these muscles are relaxed, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and wrinkles gradually soften and disappear.

Does the injection hurt?
When BOTOX® is injected, their may be a slight sting for a few seconds. When the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort. No sedation or anesthetic is required, and you are free to resume daily activities right away.

How Safe is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® has a long history of safety. It has been used in ophthalmology for over ten years and for wrinkle therapy for over six years. Side effects are only temporary, and confined to the region injected. Some patients may experience mild headache and usually responds well to acetaminophen. (Tylenol).

How long does the Botox effect last?
The effect of the injection typically lasts three to six months. After this time period another injection will be required to maintain the same effect. After several treatments, the effect of BOTOX® may begin to last longer.

Am I a safe candidate for the Botox procedure?
BOTOX® is not recommended to be given during pregnancy and lactation. The FDA has approved the cosmetic use of BOTOX® in adult men and women 65 years of age or younger.

What can I expect at the end of my procedure?
For most patients the effect of the BOTOX® injections takes place within 48 hours and last 4 - 6 months. After several injections, it may begin to last longer.

What are the possible side effects?
A minority of patients may experience minor headache relieved by Tylenol. 1% of patients may experience a droopy eyelid after injection. Rarely, a small bruise may develop that can easily be concealed by makeup. * You are advised to avoid all Aspirin products one week prior to treatment to reduce the risk of these side effects
